Kinky wall
Laval, QC, August 2008 [Click to enlarge]I love textures like this, especially when they're painted in a soft, early-morning light. I hope you do, too. This photo supports the most recent
Thematic Photographic theme,
rows (
click here to submit yours!) I've always been intrigued by bricklayers' ability to build huge, incredibly straight structures. Which is why I never became a bricklayer. I stopped at Lego...for the safety of everyone around me.
Your turn: Our next weekly Thematic Photographic entry will hit the site Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern. To get your minds churning, I'll share it a little early. It is...BROKEN! We hope you'll come on back once the new entry is up Wednesday evening.

*stares* *crosses eyes* *stares some more* I'm sure that's a wall with a one-brick-thick deviation in it, but it looks like a painted-on optical illusion. It's really cool. Including the floor or roof level for perspective would've been nice, but perhaps too easy. *looks at some white space to unstrain her eyes*

I love these textures as well, especially when there are shadows on them.
I love it! It's such a cool optical illusion because it looks like it could go one way and then it looks like it's going the other way. And the texture is obviously interesting as well. :D
Doh! Put the wrong link on my name. It's fixed on this comment.
Hmn... I like it. I had a hard time with the rows theme.
O well. Happy WW!
Yeah... what Smoofus said.
and just like Smoofus's inverted reflection it took me a minute to figure out what I was looking at. Very cool perspective!
Laying brick or block isn't as intimidating as it seems. I wouldn't want to do it for a living, but I've managed a few projects and they're still standing.
But at the end of the day, I'd rather be taking photos of this wall than trying to build it.
How often I feel like I'm running into a wall, just like this one. :( Pretty looking, no so fun to run into though. :)
it makes me think of Edgar Allen Poe
My boy toy does this for a living. He has made some pretty kick ass walls, walks, patios, stairs...and why on earth didn't I post these photos...now I have to look and see if I can find any
It's so good to back Carmi! And as always you're providing beautiful and thought provoking images for the enjoyment of everyone. There are three things that are certainties in this world... death, taxes, and food for thought at Written Inc.
Looking forward to being around more! :o)
Lots of texture, light, and shadow there. Nice shot!
I had to take a double look at the shot!
Interesting shot of the wall!~
Mine is, HERE. Have a great Wednesday!
This is a great photo - I am quite fond of working with simple texture and patterns. I actually it works best because it doesn't provide any context, one has to except the bricks as they are.
Yeah, I agree it looks more like an optical illusion than the real thing. Very good capture!
I went to schools made from bricks, but I've noticed new schools are not built from bricks anymore. I wonder why that is. In case you were wondering, new schools are not made from Legos either.
So simply but yet so complex. This is a great black and white.
Seeing that image reminds me of a concert I went to when I was 15, snuck out, and I waited in the alley to meet the band. I did. :)
Happy Wordless Wednesday.
Nice. Textured but yet soft.
I too love photographing brick. In fact, I also used a photograph of a brick sidewalk in last week's "Rows" post :).
Happy Wednesday.
What excellent black and white. It perfectly captures the texture and tonal gradations.
I like the vertical line you found to put with all the horizontal bricks. Nice WW...well sort of Wordless :-)
I am wondering about that white line. I was thinking the same thing as Bunny Trails. The bricks look like they are going in two seperate directions.
Cool Picture.
"Broken" ....GULP! Now that sounds challenging at first. This one will take some creative focus.
Looking forward to it
The picture seems to say to me - write a poem.
I love it.
Bricks have always been a favorite of mine - the look, the texture, the feel of them. I can never see a brick wall without thinking of the brick layer, laboring to create it.
you could do another theme just on bricks! I love looking at the different patterns, colors, and effects.
Yes indeed! Brick is really a strong one! It is widely used here in Cambodia.
It looked good on the BW effect.
Happy WW. I couldn't find any good row pics this week - I know and I use to trap in corn field, but I never took pics of those.
I'll try to participate for next week.
I love bricks period, when we built our house, i tried to include as much brick as possible.
Have you ever seen Hummingbird Babies?
That is a neat image! The early morning shadowing does add a lot of interest.
My parents' home was built out of adobe. The guys that laid the adobe brick did a good job - for the most part. There is one section (ironically, in a very noticeable spot) where the bricks are waaaay uneven, creating kind of a niche in the wall. We think the guys had partied too much over the weekend and must've been still hungover or something. So we refer to it affectionately as "The Monday Morning Wall."
Perfect title. Your shares are always so enjoyable. :)
Hugs,
Holly
I'm still mulling over the "Broken" prompt... If only I'd known...
But there's enough in this world that's broken that we should see some interesting spins.
Just in case you lost track (which I kinda did myself!) I had the full-monty Thematic this week! Seven TP's in seven days.

Nice shot.
Robin of mytwoblessings
wow loved the textures. Happy WW!
Reminds me of a joke that I can't tell here. Happy WW! I am running very late today.
..
BTW, I have been to several used bookstores in Montreal, one had several stories and neat places to read (with a few cats). I could hang out there for days. Was it the one in your picture?
