When most people go to the zoo, they take pictures of the animals. I'm not most people, however. I march to the beat of my own decidedly personal drum. So while I also came home from a visit to the Palm Beach Zoo with plenty of animal photos, I also filled my memory card with scenes like this one.
My aunt noticed this tree and thought I'd want to take a picture of it. She had been spotting neat scenes for me throughout our visit, and thought there was something really different about this particular tree trunk (set of tree trunks? I still have no idea.)
She was right: I see something new every time I look at this picture. I hope you do, too.

One more thing: I was on television today, speaking with Business News Network's Kim Parlee about the Macworld Expo that Apple is holding this week in San Francisco. I gazed into my crystal ball and saw Steve Jobs in a Speedo. It was awful.

What a GREAT shot. I love the textures. WHen I look at it I see lots of warm embraces. Weird, huh?
I love (or used to) walking in the woods and looking for old trees and roots that were interesting. This one is terrific! It make me think of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series. I love it, Carmi.
I think that's a strangler fig. They're not actually parasitic, but they can eventually kill the support tree by constricting it. Sometimes the support tree rots away and leaves the strangler fig standing.

It's a little like cloudwatching, isn't it? :) I see an embrace - 2 lovers, advanced in age, who still can't let go. Beautiful. :)

it does have a feel of renaissance or something to it.....friezes like jenty pointed out.

Embracing limbs... thats what i think. They look like they are all spooning or hugging each other - its a comforting image. I can see that blown up rather large positioned on the wall next to a comfy couch...

I see arms wrapped around bodies in a sprawling group embrace.
I am quite taken with tree roots and photos of tree roots myself. There is something so beautifully raw and earthy about intertwined exposed roots.
I think these roots look like people hugging one another.
my first thought, as soon as I saw this was, "wow, that reminds me of the background they use on "Plastic Surgery - Before and After" on Discovery Channel"....their background is bodies intertwined....and that is what this photo looks like!
This reminds me of what a level of Dantes Inferno could look like if those were writhing twisted human figures, instead of roots.
Looks like many commentors agree about the similarity to human-esk forms- but they're seeing a more positive theme...
