In his own world
I just love watching him play. He was so absorbed in his game that he had no idea I was even there.
As I watched him in rapt silence, I caught a fleeting glimpse of myself in grainy, washed-out pictures from a generation earlier. Playing in the sand. By myself. Unaware of the world around me.
To say I suddenly felt very connected to this smaller version of me would be an apt description of what was going through my mind at that moment.
It was a great day for us both - for very different, yet related, reasons.

That's another great photo, Carmi!
Where is the answer to yesterdays' puzzle?
Michele sent me.
Isn't it amazing how kids can so easily occupy themselves? But, once we get older, we look to others to entertain us.
Michele sent me today. :)
that is beautiful on so many different levels. you are so blessed!
Such a very sweet picture and such a very sweet memory...it's really awesome, isn't it? To see yourself in your child...Thrilling!
I didn't skip you Carmi...but saw that you were there right after I posted...So...I'm here tonight from Michele! Third time today! HA!
What a wonderful picture Carmi. I just love it when I get you in the meet & greet because I always enjoy you.
Michele sent me, but I'm going to add you do my bloglines subscriptions.
Here from Michele this time. Great pictures and memories. I have similar ones of Nyssa, now almost 20, in the surf here in Virginia Beach. In one of my favorite she is surprised by a large wave and the camera caught the shocked expression and the foam in the breaker.
Some of my favorite memories are of me watching my girls and they have no clue I'm even paying attention.
I love that photo. Mine are 22 & 16. I miss that innosence.
Michele sent me.
Great pic and great story about the picture! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Michele sent me.
I love pictures taken when the subject is totally unaware you are there :)
Great picture of a moment you will cherish.
Michele sent me back ,no surprises there huh.
Lovely, lovely photo ~ it amazes me the way children can loose themselves in imagination. Michele says to say hi!
Ah, the quintessential childhood memory, and captured so beautifully. The rapture a child has at the beach never ceases to amaze me.
I often watch my Monet playing and try and think what it must be like for her in her little world. Wierds me out. *grin*
I share some of the same fellings with my son, well put, and good pic..keep up the good work.
You can really see the innocent display of happiness in this shot. Wouldn't it be nice to be a child at heart again?
Cheers from Michele!
Sweet and simple, and simply sweet. I just love when you share "snapshot" moments of your family!
What a cutie patootie!
I took a photo (unposed) of my daughter-in-law and her 2 girls several years ago, in which they all show a similar interest in the water and swirling sand. Beautiful, Carmi!
Here again, via Michele.
"He was so absorbed in his game that he had no idea I was even there."
Isn't that the best time? For both of you, I mean :) That is a great picture, Carmi! Keep it captured in your mind.
Here from Michele's
Very wonderful Carmi. I totally understand the feeling.
~A~
Love this. We just moved to a new town, and our home is 2 miles from the ocean. I'm so thrilled for my little boy. I'm sure I'll have lots of pictures like that one. (Well, maybe not as well photographed. . .)
Michele sent me back again this morning...I'm following you around the net, my dear...
I have some new flower stuff up--go take a peek!
Michele sent me again! Man that photo makes me wish I was in a warn sunny beach right now (it is actually snowing outside in Missouri right now). How very sweet!
ah great photo. I love the beach - a good place to refresh the mind and body
Such a sweet photo. I love watching a child play when he is lost in whatever it is he is doing. I wish I knew what he was thinking though... but then the fact that I'd even wonder probably means that I'm way too "grown up". :)
how great is this image..
they are innocent at this age..
and you have captured just that...
This is a beautiful picture and talk about a study in contrast! We're suppossed to get 8-12 inches of snow over here and there you all are frolicking in the sunshine. :)
Kestrel
History repeats itself in our offspring. Great picture. He does seem caught up in his own world. Is is " a pebble off the old beach?" Michele sent me.
Here hoping he gets to spend a lot of time in his own world before going into battle in this one...
Here from Michele's.
I was thinking that it reminded me of the other photo! Glad I wasn't losing my mind there for a minute! Adorable photo. There's nothing better than watching your children enchanted by something/anything. Except maybe watching them sleep. When they're young. Watching them sleep when they're teens is just, well aggravating because if you're watching them sleep it's because you're trying to wake them up and that's virtually impossible!
Anyway, Happy Saturday!
I always enjoy stopping by here at the meet and greet. You always seem to capture just the right moment with your photos. And capture the right words.
What a great shot. I'd say I would love to know what's running through his mind, but we've all be there. Sometimes even now. :)
That's a neat-o picture. I love the total peaceful absorption.
What a charming photo and yes, I remember the times I saw myself in my children. I have a tendency to bounce when I walk. One time I looked in a window and saw the reflections of me and two little sons all bouncing down the street.
Oops I forgot to say Hi from Michele. Must play by the rules, you know.
Nice picture, the future in our hands!
Here from Michele's this eve.
What an wonderful picture...actually, both pictures are wonderful!
Hi there! Michele send me. Cute photo.
Back yet again, Carmi, via Michele this time also. I didn't want to skip you - so here I am.
That's the kind of momentyou want to bottle up to open and enjoy again and again. i guess thats sort of what you did with that photo. Michele sent me today.
Back again because of Michele
Precious photo Carmi! If you were here you could take a picture of me completely absorbed like that on my computer! (I'm serious, sadly enough! Not as much fun as sitting in the surf!) Looks like you had a great day.
Oh, Michele sent me. After all, it IS the weekend. But I probably would have made it over here all by myself!
Thank you for all of your very kind words to me this week. The show of support from so many wonderful people is really helping. xo
Michele sends me back for another visit. I love the ocean!
Carmi: As the number of comments indicate, you have really struck a chord in all of us with this touching photo. It is great to be alive and this post supports that message! Have a fantastic weekend!
Great picture. Great entry.
I agree with Kenju, what was the answer to yesterday's puzzle??
Lovely photo Carmi.
I can't believe that this is the first time I've been by here via the meet & greet at Michele's.
She sent me..btw :)
beautiful child! All children should spend ample time at water's edge.
Great looking kid. Michele sent me
my parents are taking the entire family to the coast in August. I hope to come home with pictures as wonderful as this one! My children have never seen the ocean before, so I'm hoping to catch lots of great shots as they experience it all for the first time!
what a cutie! don't we all sometimes wish we could go back to that point in time when we were so entranced with everything around us? ah, the innocence of youth! :)
