Before its time

Early autumn?
Laval, QC, August 2008 [Click to embiggen]

The scene: It's 7:24 a.m. I've gone out for a morning walk to take pictures and spend a bit of alone time by the river that carves the landscape around my parents' and in-laws' neighborhood. I'm barely out the front door when a sliver of red invades my view. I stop dead in my tracks: can't be...it's August! But sure enough, there it is, a single red leaf on the sidewalk, mocking my sense of schedule.

Yes, it's early. But I guess sometimes forlorn beauty just can't wait to show itself.

Your turn: We're getting colorful with this week's Thematic Photographic theme. Got a colorful photo to share? Click here to get into the photographic groove.

Wow. Summer's over. Where did the time go?

(glad you stayed up to post!)

I love the stark contrast of the red leaf against the muted-colour ground. Incredible that you should see this in August, though. But I'll take it as a good sign. I've never been very fond of summer. Autumn and spring are where it's at. Especially autumn. *bliss* Good days to come!

Fall is near? In Oklahoma we won't feel Fall is near until close to the end of October and even then...we don't see the colors of the leaves...one day they are on the trees and the next they are just on the ground.

This photo would have fit with the "poignant" theme, too.

Cheers.

August does offer a somewhat disjointed mood. I always notice the sounds of August. Unlike the other summer months there is a constant drone of sound from the bugs outside my window. The locusts, crickets, and other insects that emit sounds never seem to stop in August. It is never just quiet. At night add the sounds of the tree-frogs and it is quite a rhythmic symphony.

The trees start to show different colors and some start to shed their leaves telling us that all too soon summer will be over.

Lovely shot, Carmi. I've noticed leaves changing here too, and can't believe this is happening mid-August. Although the past week, we've definitely had autumn weather.

Leaves are falling in central North Carolina now too - very early. And RSherman, the poignancy of a fall leaf is very subjective, wouldn't you say?

Autumn is my favorite season! I look at your pictures and I think of school supplies, and apple cider, and pumpkin patches, and pumpkin bread, and hot chili on a cold night.... It makes me want to dust off the crock pot and rake some of those gorgeous leaves!

Yes, a red leaf may signify the end of summer, but to me it looks like a mouth ready for a kiss!

The has gone quickly but it has been a great one!

I had a similar double take a few days ago when I spotted a few yellow leaves on the grass in the back garden.

No word of a lie... I just saw geese flying south. Maybe just practicing?
