About this photo: We're exploring shadows all week long as part of our latest Thematic Photographic theme. You can play with shadows until Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. ET, at which time I'll post a new theme for the coming week. Hope you can share something from your lens. Here's where you can get started. There's a neat time of night when there's still some light left in the sky, but it doesn't quite reach folks on the ground. The bluish transition in a clear subtropical sky is visually rich enough to make you wish you could freeze the earth in place, lie down on the ground and stare at that amazing color for as long as you wish.
But unless you live in a Star Trekkian (or is it Star Warsian?) future, you're pretty much stuck having no control over the passage of time. So when a scene like this presents itself, you point your camera skyward and hope you bring something memorable home.
Thankfully this time, I think I did. Because every time I see this picture, I think about the simple joys of taking in a quiet scene like this. It doesn't have to be any more complex than that.
Your turn: If you could turn back time... (please, no Cher jokes!)

That is gorgeous!
I would try real hard to be a kid when i was one.
Knowing my luck, I would have whipped out my camera to find that the batteries had died. Not that I would have found a palm tree down here.
Hi Carmi,
If I could turn back time, I would have backed up my hundreds of photos from my hard drive that recently crashed! Which explains why I have been absent from Thematic Photographic for a while. But I'm ready to take up my camera for whatever this week's challenge will be, and put my big mistake behind me.
That is an awesome palm tree photo. I am inspired now to go search some out and photograph them. We actually do have lots in our little city. Thanks for all the photographic inspiration. Can't wait to get back into the game.
beautiful!
if i could turn back the clock, i'd learn to laugh MUCH earlier in my life. but better late than never.....
This is absolute perfection.
The Ansel Adams quote on my Snapshots banner is so very right.
Perfect light, perfect time!
