The warm mug of happiness

The next time you make yourself a mug of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or whatever else it is that brings you comfort, I hope you’ll try something.

Stop.
Seriously. Whatever you’re doing, just stop.

Put the mug down on the table or counter. Then stare at it.

Don’t look at your phone. Don’t check the notifications on your smartwatch. Don’t ask Siri for the weather forecast. Don’t talk to anyone. Don't multitask.

Just take in the simple pleasure of a warm mug of something, radiating through your fingertips.

Why the hell am I rambling on about mugs?

Because we don’t reflect enough anymore. We don’t set boundaries between the demands of the outside world and the quiet spaces within us. Indeed, it’s getting harder to find those quiet spaces in the first place.

But it doesn’t have to be. All you need is a kettle. And some time.
