In a few minutes, I'm going to pack up my laptop, double-check that every important cable and document made it into my luggage, and carefully kiss my wife and kids goodbye before heading off into the dark night to catch an early-morning flight to Dallas, TX.
I'm attending the Microsoft Convergence 2006 Conference. In my real life, I'm an analyst with a technology research firm, and a significant portion of the research I do focuses on end-user computing - which means I read, write and speak about Microsoft rather often.
For the next few days, I'll be listening to and speaking extensively with many of the people at the center of this fascinating world. I look forward to learning more about the technology that makes everyday business tick. It may sound somewhat arcane on the surface, but when you realize just how much this influences daily life, you start to view it in different terms. It comes alive.
I hope you take the time to return during my journey to see what I've uncovered. I'll share thoughts and perspectives - and likely an image or two (or three) - before packing everything up again and heading home midweek.
Wherever you're travelling this weekend, have a safe trip. See you from the southwest.

Well, Dallas is just four hours north of Houston, where I live. I hope you have good weather while you are here visiting and working. I'll keep my eye open for news of your trip. Be safe and your family safe while you are gone.
Hi Carmi, I saw that you were sleepless over at michele's so wanted to drop in to see if everything was okay with you.
Enjoy your trip!
I'm envious, Carmi! Dallas is home for me! Have some good Tex Mex and a Margarita while you're down there for me, would ya?
If you get to shake loose of the conference, I'm sure you'll run into lots of photo ops. The first one I thought of (and it may not be feasible for you to get there) is the Mustangs in Las Colinas.
I can't wait to hear about your impressions of "Big D!"
:-)
I used to live in Dallas, but I barely remember it...
I don't have the brain for anything more than turnign my computer on and typing...I kind of envy those of you who do! I'd be in awe at a conference filled with people who understand compu-ese...
I just wrote about insomnia. I guess there are a lot of us around.
Safe journey.

Dude...can you come and fix our helpdesk. It a cluster f#@*.
Have fun in Dallas. Watch out for JR.
Have a fab time. Never been there...count how many Taco Bells are there for me?
I hope you have an enjoyable trip to the conference. I look forward to reading what you have to say about what you learn.
You're just 3 hours away from me! Too bad Oklahoma isn't a hotbed of activity for Microsoft so you could visit here.
Hope your flight was a good one Carmi...Can't wait to see some Images From Dallas! Have a very informative time!
Here from Michele today...
Eight years of my life were spent in Dallas at the med school there and in residency at Baylor Hospital. I've been in the traffic jams on I-35 and the "North Central Parking Lot" and on the 635 loop. We lived behind the parking lot of Valley View mall in townhouses. They probably aren't there any longer. It is a very nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there now. Have fun.
have a great trip. i'm off to camp and watch the eclipse.... and more importantly watch my concrete jungle girls play on the grass. lovely post below....how lucky we are to have our children to teach us*
Travel safe :)
Why did someone have to mention Taco Bell? (sigh) I miss it :) Hope you enjoy your trip, it sounds really interesting!
Hope you are having a good trip, Carmi. I know how you hate to be away from your family, so I hope this one is worth every minute.
You travel a lot! I know it's hard for you to be away from your wife and kids. I'm sure they miss you a lot.
That said, I'm jealous. I wish I were in the South right now. It was a little warmer in NYC today, but still not warm. And it was RAINING. This is the worst city in the world to be in when it rains. Hope you are enjoying your trip and learning a lot. Get home safe!
Hope you are enjoying your visit when you read this! I haven't been to Texas yet, although the research we're doing on a grant at work is taking us all over the country. We depart for San Fransico a week from Thursday.
I'll be checking back in to see the pics!
Hey, I've got a new home! Come visit me at atpanda.blogspot.com
