A beautiful afternoon at the playground with our kids. An unknown child's lost toy, abandoned in the middle of the sand. Ignored by everyone. Except me.

A lost or forgotten toy is always sad. And the child who lost it is even sadder, probably.
"Sad" is the first thing I thought when I saw that photo, Carmi. Then I read what you wrote and it only reinforced my impression. A simple yet rich image.

I was walking down the creek a while back and saw something bobbing where the water flowed over a berm.
It was a tiny paper boat -- I wish I'd posted the photo I took .. hmm I may yet.

I love these minimalist shots. nothing but sand and a toy. We used to go to the beach frequently and never had to buy sand toys because the tourists would abandon them.
i think the child who lost that toy might be missing it now.

Sad? I guess it depends on the larger context. Lost, or just resting? What's happening outside the frame?
And I'm anxious for the next Thematic... I have a few ideas already. Blur is usually somethign I try to avoid, but properly implemented... ohyeah...

You can see footprints all around it -- poor toy, it is sad. Did you rescue it?

I agree with Kenju...I always find it sad when I see something that was once loved and played with discarded.
This toy is another unidentifiable object. Like my yellow behomouth.
