Thematic Photographic 119 - Turning Colder
Ice, ice, baby
In support of Thematic Photographic's "Turning Colder" theme
London, ON, September 2010
Lately, I've been wearing sweaters and coats on my nighttime walks with the dog. Even then, it often isn't enough to ward off the chill. Same thing in the morning, where you can almost see your breath. Summer was officially over in the Northern Hemisphere a few weeks ago, but only now is it really starting to hit home.
It isn't anywhere near freezing yet, and we're nowhere near the bite of a true Canadian winter. But it's coming. You can feel it in the air, see it on the frost on the windows in the morning, hear it in the trees as they slowly (or not-so-slowly) shed their leaves and get ready for the inevitable.
So I thought we could explore this change a little bit over the next week. I realize exploring temperature with a camera seems a little out there. But isn't that the whole point of photography? To make those around us feel something a little more intensely through a shared scene?
As you choose your pictures this week, keep in mind that you don't necessarily need to stick to ice-and-snow pictures. As ever, feel free to be as abstract or as interpretive as you wish. There are no rights and wrongs here. Creative thinking has no boundaries.
Have fun.
Your turn: Share a photo that supports this week's theme, "turning colder". Leave a link to it in a comment here. If you've got something archived online, share that, too. Play along as often as you wish. Thematic Photographic rules (well, not really rules...more like suggestions) are here. All TP entries are found under our handy dandy TP label here.
About this photo: John Labatt Centre. Goalie's crease, just before the start of the London Knights game. Not long before the lady from the JLC confronted me and told me to put my camera away because the lens was too long. Oops.

My contribution for this week’s prompt comes straight from the glaciers of the Alaska Range… just when you think you’ve experienced cold, a storm starts brewing.
Titanium,
I think you accidentally linked back to this blogpost. At least that's where I go when I click your link.
Okay, mine's not terribly creative (in any symbolic way), but here 'tis:

Turning Colder - interesting. I believe I may have some things ofr you soon.
I just got back from holidays and visiting my mum. I saw my first snow since moving to the tropics 5 years ago!!! AND we're supposed to be warming up down here in the southern hemisphere! CRaZY!
Nice theme, except it's still Indian Summer here for a bit yet. But I'm away from home with laptop so this is my first collection of real Minnesota winter, from last year. Next entry later will be of something creative in this heat! Check mine at, twincitiesblather.blogspot.com/2010/10/thematic-photographic-119-turning.html Off to see yours!
oops forgot to mention very awesome and icy cool photo with such a defining mystery in the shadows...it gives me the urge to break what appears to be (to me anyway) very thin ice! Thanks for reminding us of what's ahead. I almost forgot.
I could have not thought about this subject for a while yet and been happy about it LOL but you can see mine here
How are the Aussies going to cope with this one ;-) It's unseasonably warm here in southern UK so this one will have to be out of the archives....!
*goes off to search*
Juniper
I have interpreted 'turning colder' as the edges of winter, when there is a hint of chill..
I have not been around for a while.

Very nice abstract photo...
Well, mine is not typical....

I like this theme. I have a few ideas and a few photos I want to share.
Summer is on the way here, on this side of the world, and I have no currently cold photos.
This theme gave me these thoughts
It will be cold soon enough. My post for this theme...http://randomoutrageous.blogspot.com/2010/10/no-ice-yet.html
It's just too unseasonably warm here for any real icy, frosty or snow photos and in keeping my promise I'm sending one that reflects what some people do when it starts turning colder! I hope it makes you laugh. Note, they are only decoys in the truck! Hope everyone as a fabulous weekend!

Hmmm did you add some red to the photo since yesterday? My laptop didn't seem to pick it up....spooky! Just wondering! Karen
I tried to think 'keep warm' in my contribution this week
"Turning Colder" . . . not my favorite subject. But, as with all things . . . there are pros and cons. Here are a few of the "pros"!

Here's mine for this week
Great photograph.
We've actually been enjoying a mini Indian summer here in Ireland, very unusual but wonderful.
Mine is a bit of fun

I tell ya, go away for 4 days and there's a lot of work to do to catch up to this Thematic Photographic thing. Usually I check out 4 or 5 posts every day, easy to keep up with. 25. And about 20 I had to link to to check out their pictures. I love it. So, anyhoo, here's mine for this one, read it and you'll see why I was away for 4 days.
Cold? Cold?!?
I'm really enjoying looking at these
mine is here
I'm sorry, Carmi - I tried, I really did. I searched photos of snow and ice, skiing and sledding... but could not bring myself to go there yet. I'm not ready to give this up yet. The cold will be here too soon.
Here's another, last minute one! Turning Colder
