Lucky

Like most people, I seem to want more than I have. I spend more time thinking about the things that I aspire to than the things that are already under my roof. Even my roof isn't good enough, apparently: I want a bigger one that covers more rooms. I spend a lot of time working on career-related stuff so that we'll be able to afford that bigger roof someday soon.

But then I'll cross paths with someone who wishes he had a roof to begin with, who has no hope of ever being able to do the kind of work that will help him achieve that within his lifetime. And suddenly my life seems much more charmed than it did just a moment before.

Your turn: What are you thankful for? Why do we seem to forget about all we have as we dream about what we don't?

I'm thankful for my family, for their open-arms and understanding. Without them there have been a few times where I could have ended up with nothing at all. Makes you appreciate those small things!

I'm thankful for my husband who supports and nourishes my every dream and passion. He's unfailingly my biggest fan. Who could ask for more?

Stopping by to say hello Carmi. Love today's photo!

I agree with you, we always seem to want so much more...nice to look at it from this perspective..be thankful of what we have.

I am thankful for my child who continuously gives me joy and unconditional love. There are those who don't have any children and have always longed for one. i am so blessed to have my daughter.

That's so true, Carmi! Recently, I've met at a Bob Evan's restaurant the widoer of the woman who had a hit with the song "Harper Valley PTA" in 1969 and two weeks later I met a 90 year old woman who is a Nuclear Scientist who has worked with Collin Powell. I cherish each day that I awake and lok forward to meeting some of the most fascinating and wonderful people on this planet!

Carmi, cool photo, but if those are your horseshoes, and if you want to hold on to all that luck you have, then you better store them differently.

Everyone (tongue-firmly-in-cheek) knows that the luck spills out the shoe is that way!

So, I was thinking you could just Photoshop this one and flip the image upside down. At least it will make me feel better. ;-)

I'm thankful for so many things, but I have work to do, and I'd be even more thankful if I lived more consistently in the present moment.

Love the photo, where did you take it?

I'm thankful that my parents opened their home to us when my job ended. I'm thankful that I could be here when they needed me.

I am thankful everyday for my family. Once I wanted more than I have, but now I want simpler. Not necessarily less, but simpler and less complicated.

I'm thankful for my health and the fact that I am able to provide for myself even if I'm not wealthy by any means. So many others are ill or cannot even buy food for themselves.

I too have ambitions to achieve so much more, but at the same time, am very, very thankful for all that I have:

I'm just thankful to be alive...everything else is just icing on top of an already pretty decent cake.

Yes, it takes a huge nudge sometimes for us to gain perspective, see the big picture and how lucky we are to fit into it where we do.
Like...we just got an estimate for a new roof to be done in the next few weeks at $8300. It seems like a lot but we at least have had a roof and even though it is not good now, we can afford a new one. The problem of water on a keyboard in the attic seems minimal.

It's all relative.

Halas we are consumers
we have to buy
so we have (sometimes) the impression we exist
descartes said "je pense donc je suis" ("i think therefore i am)
now we "say" "i buy therefore i am"!!!
