Morning rituals

To some, it's just a mug of coffee. To me, it's coffee that my wife made. Which makes it uniquely special, because to me, at least, it's far more than percolated beans with a bit of milk and sugar.

It's a little thing that connects us, a moment between sleep-time and our pedal-to-the-metal day that reminds us why our family matters as much as it does. Because before we had kids, before we needed to shuttle them around town, before we tended to their every need before we tended to our own, we sat together over mugs of coffee or tea at our quiet kitchen table.

Even if not a word was said, the conversation was always glorious. Still is.

Your turn: What's your morning ritual? Why does it matter to you?

My mornings are my time of solitude. Isabel, our nine year old greyhound gets feed between six and six-thirty and I put my coffee on. Most mornings, I'll sit and read the blogs and the news over my coffee. I like quite mornings. May you and you family have a happy and healthy holiday season!

I'm a morning person.. Love the quiet and darkness of the day before hustle & bustle sets in. I take my coffee cup and go sit outside on the porch and say my daily blessings. This seems to always give my days a wonderful start..

I love what you said about sometimes not a word was said between you and your wife, yet whole conversations were said..Beautiful, Carmi!!

Rituals can be as simplistic as having cream in your coffee every morning to working out every day at the gym... Rituals are like mental check lists, to let us know that we are going thru our day.. People seem to think they need coffee to wake up.. Not so, when I started drinking coffee (again) a few years ago, I noticed that before, I really didn't need the coffee to start the day.. I needed the scent of it... cuz it signified a start to a new day....

Not as quite as yours when you've kids at home. First comes their needs. Btw, we all won't even wake up soon as it is holiday season...time to relax and do things at your speed....no one is controlling the time.

awww....yes.... my coffee ritual is the same... however, alone, I share it while browsing the web...

a day without... just couldn't be. it's "me" time. (although, I do always secretly wish I could be that person to jump up and greet the world with a brisk walk or run outside)...

ah, but the hot coffee and warmth/coolness and calmness is a great way to start!-- now I'm rambling... (perhaps I've had my daily fix)

:))

aw yes, but mine starts with a cuddle in bed and then on to the coffee, he reads the paper, I read the blogs and news on the net.
Merry and Happy to you and yours.

The Spouse Thingy and I are on such opposite schedules that we don't get mornings together...my ritual has become snuggling with a cat that only wants me to get up and feed him ;)

It takes me a good hour and a half to get from bed to out the door, most of it spent drinking coffee while watching the news and then reading the paper. When the house is out of coffee, my day doesn't seem to go right. Same when the paper comes late.
I'm not a morning person so I need these rituals that are so habitual that I can do them before my brain is working properly. Without the rituals, I have to think, though I can't because I'm still half asleep, turning the morning into frustration.

The very first thing (unless I'm really craving coffee) is animals first!
