Very berry

Berries and snow
Waterloo Street, London, Ontario
December, 2006 [Click to embiggen]

Long after the last of the season's leaves have fallen, brilliant color continues to call out from the bare branches. You miss stuff like this if you drive a car or ride a bike. But when you're walking, as I was on this brilliantly sunny afternoon, scenes like this just jump out at you and beg to be pondered.

As you can see, I heeded the call. I'm glad I did: mere minutes after I snapped this and continued on my way, the largest snowstorm in years moved into the region and shut everything down. I made it back to the office just as the worst winds and blowing snow descended on me. The weather never ceases to amaze.

Your turn: What thoughts does this image bring to mind?

I think the first thought I had when I saw this photo was I must either have a really horrible digital camera or no photographic talent. To be honest, I'm going with the latter.

I do appreciate this image because it proves that even when all else seems withering, cold, and abandoned, there is life. To me, that is hope.

I love the promise of spring and new growth, and somehow the red of those berries speaks of that to me. In fact, it yells it (being that the red is so very RED!)

It brings to mind that I wish we would get some snow so I wouldn't have to go to work.

I wish it brought to mind peace and harmony and all that, but I am tired of work and would love a snow day. Sorry, I am just that kind of gal.

It makes think how jealous I am that you have snow in your city, darn it!! Toronto's going to have a green Christmas this year and I think that sucks.

Gimme snow!!

(great pic, btw, and all the best for the Holiday Season!)

I love this beautiful shot. The colour really pops here. Btw.. your non-walmart phototaking adventure had me laughing soooo hard. I can totally imagine every detail of that.

Hope you have a lovely Hanukah (sp??) and holiday season :)

The bright red berries against the deep blue sky are stunning. But what strikes me the most are those bold, wicked thorns! Ouch!

These remind me of the many local brightly colored berries aound my home. Besides "the Sample" Autumn post's orange n pink Tube-flower berries, we have endangered Mayberries, Bittersweet, n a few varieties in the woods across the street I don't have names for-
Now if I had more time n a better cam-tool...

(heh... embiggen)

It reminds me of being stuck in the woods facing the dilemma of finding what's actually edible.

Nice shot.
