Henrietta at rest

The four-wheeled transport thing is working out pretty well so far. A major winter storm rolled through the region today, so I'm thinking cycle-commuting to work probably wouldn't have been a good thing.

While I don't think I'll ever be fully comfortable with the concept of driving a car to the office - indeed, as soon as spring cleans the roads, I'll be two-wheeling it to work every chance I get - I've got to admit I somewhat like having my own little set of wheels.

Here, Henrietta the (snow-covered) HHR gets her tank filled. She's very efficient, but eventually, even she needs a fill-up.

Your turn: How do you get to work?

I get out of bed and go downstairs. LOL!! Although I do have a...dare I say it...a minivan. No, not a soccer mom, but still a van. It's a practicality issue - only 2 kids, but there are friends and nieces. If it weren't for the practical kid factor, I would very possibly get an HHR. I am, however, planning to ride my bike more once the weather's better. I bought my mom's old bike last summer, so I have a better one again.

I walk three days a week (it takes about half an hour), unless I'm running late or it's raining. On the other two days I work further away, and I take the car. That takes me about half an hour, too (though I usually stop and do messages on the way and it takes longer). I feel I should take the bus, but it would involve two buses and quite a bit of waiting - probably about an hour and a half each way.

Yes, ok, I drive a minivan. With 4 kids (and three do play soccer) I am that soccer mom. Besides, I work 25 miles from home and there is no public transportation to get me there. One of the problems of living in the country and working in the suburbs.

I used to bike into the city all the time but one too many close calls with cars and trucks had me back on the train wishing for a bike path. Parking is way too expensive to drive in every day.

I get to work by going into the office in my home and sitting down.

I walk down the hall to my office. So much for commuting. When I actually get to get out of the house(yay!), I drive a Chevrolet Malibu (07). It's not as fuel efficient as my old Mazda Protege, but it is nice to drive.
