Dirty, yellow and fluorescent

With everyone drooling over the iPhone 5, I thought I'd swim upstream with something, ah, a little less aesthetically pleasing. Beach towns like Grand Bend are lovely places to spend time, but it's just as true some of the shops and eateries along the main drag leaving down to the waterfront are more than a little gritty.

Of course, that's all part of the appeal. Pristine and upscale just wouldn't feel the same.

Your turn: What's your favorite slightly worn place to pass the time? What draws you there?

Back when I lived and worked in Manhattan, there was a little run down bar and restaurant on Front Street (called "Front Street").

It was close to the shadows of the Brooklyn Bridge, and was just more comfortable than the trendy (or staid) more expensive places closer to Wall St.

I can think of a few neighborhood bars that a bit seed and rundown. Maybe more than a "bit" seedy.
Nice photo. It says a lot about the place it is in...

Looks like you have been visiting the frozen custard shop in my neighborhood. I could swear those are the same lights I photographed a couple of weeks back.

To answer your question it is a little dive of a diner in town called Whimpy's and based on the character from the Popeye comic strip.
