Michael Jackson dead

Ooh, it's turning into a really bad week for celebrities - if the report from gutter-grabbing celeb "news" site TMZ.com is true.
This just in: major conventional news outlets, including AP, Reuters and the Los Angeles Times, are now confirming his passing. One can easily surmise that the debate over conventional/new/yellow media will rage for weeks now. End digression.
Say what you want about MJ - and I'm sure plenty of ink will be spilled in the days and months to come - but it's a sad, sad day when someone who so completely redefined the entertainment landscape is lost so young.

Sigh...

Your turn: Please share a happy in a comment below. The world needs a smile.

Tell us how you REALLY feel, "SGTA". Assuming that this is, you know, your actual name.

I'm going to leave this troll's comment up as an example of why I implemented comment moderation in the first place.

Just once, I'd like one of these morons to use his (they're always men, for some reason) real name, along with a link back to an actual web site. You know, not anonymous, reflective of someone with actual courage.

I know, I'm dreaming.

Well there is a bright side to everything, at least he can no longer violate little boys and emotionally scar them for the rest of their lives. That's a very happy thought.

They can say what they want Michael was a phenomenal artist and he WILL be missed.

I'm sorry that he died so young.

and SGTA? That is very inappropriate here. Take it elsewhere.

Did they ever prove that he did the things he was accused of? I don't recollect he was ever found guilty. So that can stay where it belongs.

Meanwhile, I can moon dance, can you?

Amazing talent, tortured soul, not I hope you can RIP.

Thanks for leaving the SGTA post up. It's nice to have contrast when reading intelligent and brave posts. What is it about ranting and raving anonymously, take a stand yes, but show your face and be real.

wow SGTA- totally inappropriate, not to mention your wildly offensive vocabulary. If I remember correctly, he was acquitted of the charges against him (not sure how much that counts for in today's day and age though...)
I grew up listening to and enjoying Mr Jackson's music, and his influence on pop culture and music is huge. My thoughts are with his family and his children.

That's ashame. He had some good music. More and more people are dying young.

May Michael Jackson rest in peace despite some of the negative things said about him.

I REMEBER WHEN MICHEAL JACKSON WAS ON AMERICAN BANDSTAND.. HE WAS A WONDERFUL PERFORMER.HE MADE POP MUSIC AS IT IS TODAY FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATION. MAY HE REST IN PEACE. THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GOES OUT TO HIS FAMILY AND CHILDREN. GOD BLESS EACH ONE OF YOU.

I never cared for his music.. after he grew up. I felt bad for him.. he really didn't have much of a childhood and this probably skewed his adult life as well. He reminded me of Peter Pan.. someone who simply never grew up. His life shows how fleeting wealth is... talent without self-respect and common sense... a waste.

When I found out, it was a little surreal as it was unexpected.
He was a truly legendary musician on par with Elvis and Hendrix.

I grew up listening to his music along with friends, family, just about everybody. I mean he did "Thriller" and "Off the Wall" - what's not to like about those albums?!

I did feel horrible for the guy seeing his gradual downfall.

I'd get as much MJ merchandise as I could get my hands on.

Such a strange end to a tragic and even stranger life. I don't know what to think or say. I was never a fan and always suspicious of him...

I will try to say it with a smile but I'm actually quite sad by MJ's death. It appears, and keep in mind that I don't follow celebrities much, MJ was first a victim, then a perpetrator. Both make me very sad.
Not to mention that I will turn 50 next week. He too was born in 1959. No doubt a musical and cultural icon. And who could resist Thriller? A very unique, at times twisted and weird, individual. And constantly in the eye of the media. How could anyone live a happy life like that?

I thank God I am blessed with the opportunity to taste the freedom of walking down a street in full smiling anonymity. Michael Jackson never knew that feeling.

I wrote a piece about him today on my blog.
