About this photo: Thematic Photographic shares musical-themed images all week long. Got one? Even if you don't, click over here to see what everyone's fussin' about. There's something almost poetic about a musical instrument at rest. As it sits there, it isn't doing anything special. Until someone brings it to life, it's as static as anything else in the room.
But to those who appreciate its potential, it's often enough to close our eyes and take a moment to hear the notes yet be played. It isn't always about what you're hearing now, anyway, is it?
Your turn: What are you hearing at this very moment?

My mom's beautiful rendition of Chopin's Waltzes...she'd sit down at a piano, any piano, and just make it sing. She could have been a professional musician but didn't pursue it. Instead, she taught piano, and as we came into her life, she passed her musical aptitude onto us, and instilled and inspired love for all kinds of music. (She'd give me a loud "I told you so!" if she could see me enjoying opera now)
If anyone can play a musical instrument, it is a great gift.
NetChick sent me here.
I always thought it was "tinkle the ivories".. though I'm kinda wishing I hadn't looked it up... http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=tinkle+the+ivories
No question about it. Thelonius Monk's "Straight, No Chaser". We had a similar idea today, and both from the rhythm section no less.
I like this one as well Carmi there is something forlorn about it like it is waiting for the human touch!
Makes want to get a tenor sax and start playing an instrument again.

Dear Carmi,
What are the keys to good photography?
Ansel Adams
Beautiful, Carmi. It does look melancholy - like it's an old jazz song...
Netchick send me - "Hi!"
I left my <3 in San Francisco.
I proposed.
Got more than I bargained for
What I'm hearing is silence, but I love the way the light is dancing over the shiny keys. As if there's music we aren't allowed to hear, but we can enjoy the view.
what am i hearing now?
...a story waiting to be caught and decorated with fine lines and colour- carefully chosen
...a pot of crumpled strawberries calling for release
.... a bundle of jazz waiting to whisper in my ear
The chirping birds of an Arizona Morning. This photo reminds me of my late Cousin and a photo her mom still has of her at age 3 standing at the piano!
The piano makes me think of Dahlia. She loves the piano. She amazes me how she can listen to the sounds and play them again on the piano. I wish I had that talent!
I'm listening to the sounds of our children playing nicely together. I need to store this up and remind myself when they are at each others throats. Yes, they really do love each other!
In the Elephant world, tickling the ivories means something completely different.
